Economic development in Albania: Problems and chances from an external view

Albania celebrates in 2012 one century of independence as well as twenty years democracy after the fall of the communist regime. Reason enough to make an economic policy analysis and positioning: What has been achieved, what are the strengths and weaknesses, where the perils? What are the opportunities? Which tasks deliver oneself up to the economy, politics, and the whole society? How much time remains to implement?

To reveal the possibilities and requirements, the Swiss-Albanian Society planned this lecture of Prof. Bernd Schips together with the Konfindustria Shqiptare and the Union of Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Albania.

Prof. em. Dr. Bernd Schips studied at Universities of Karlsruhe, Tübingen and Bochum in Germany and graduated in 1967 (Dr. rer. Pol.). He held professorships at the Universities of Saarbrücken, Bochum, St. Gallen and Federal Technical High-school Zurich. From 1992 to 2005 he was head of the prestigious Economic Institute KOF at ETH Zurich. Bernd Schips was also manager and member of scientific research groups, several committees and expert groups.

The event aimed at the squad of Albanian and Swiss companies, as well as decision makers of politics and administration. The presentation followed an open discussions. The lecture was open to the public with free admission.
