Next summer Edelweiss Air and Germania will fly diretly from Zurich to Tirana

An Edelweiss airplane high above the mountains of Northern Albania

Since 2002, there were no direct flight connections between Switzerland and Albania – except for a short period with flights of the Albanian low-cost carrier Belle Air. This is quite surprising because Swissair was the first airline of Western Europe that started flying to Tirana in the 80ies. Their dayly flights had the same good reputation in the Albanian air space as Mercedes on Albanian roads.

Next year, Albania and Switzerland will move closer together: Two airlines will start a direct service next summer.

Edelweiss Air

Already in July, Edelweiss Air announced that they will start flying to Tirana on April 1, 2019. Tirana is scheduled twice a week – on Monday mornings and Friday evenings.
Edelweiss is a Swiss holiday carrier with a longterm pressence on the Balkans: There are flights with Edelweiss to Prishtina since many years, sometimes several times a day.

Important development

The Swiss-Albanian Society is very pleased about these new offers. This is an important step for the bilateral relations. New travel offers which didn’t exist before are already available. We hope that other new investors will follow soon, and that more Swiss will get excited about Albania.
